Hunter Signs Pledge to Promote Transparency

Supports creation of website to map all state spending

DETROIT-Today State Senator Tupac A. Hunter (D-Detroit, Dearborn Heights, and Inkster) announced he has signed a pledge to promote greater transparency in state government. The pledge, offered to all legislators and potential legislators by State Attorney General Mike Cox, demonstrates his support for a more open government.

“Our citizens deserve to have all the information they want about how we conduct public business right at their fingertips,” said Sen. Hunter. “This pledge reaffirms my commitment to representing my district in an open, honest way and I hope legislators from both sides of the aisle will join me in this approach.”

The legislation to create a website listing all of the state’s expenditures is Senate Bill 1441 and House Bill 5137. The federal government approved a similar site, www.usaspending.gov, with bipartisan support in 2006.
