State Sen. Goeff Hansen (left), R-Hart, and Gov. Rick Snyder hold Senate Bill 510, sponsored by Hansen, after it was signed into law. SBs 508 through 510 establish the Great Lakes Basin Aquatic Invasive Species Advisory Council. The council will help protect the state from an ecological catastrophe from aquatic invasive species and help prevent millions of dollars in lost revenue. The new laws are Public Acts 284 through 286 of 2011. (12/21/2011)

Holly Hughes, R-Montague, welcomed Muskegon Community College President Dale Nesbary and the school's board of trustees to the Senate floor for a special presentation in celebration of its 85th anniversary. LANSING - Sen. Goeff Hansen, R-Hart, joined his Senate Republican colleagues to discuss passage of 18 Senate bills to help protect Michigans seniors, encourage increased reporting of elder abuse and strengthen penalties for those convicted of abusing a senior. Senate Bills 454-457, 459-468, 604-605, 706 and 777 have been sent to the House of Representatives for further consideration.  (11/3/2011)

Sen. Goeff Hansen, R-Hart, joined Gov. Rick Snyder Tuesday as measures banning partial birth abortion were signed into law. Public Acts 168 and 169 of 2011 (Senate Bill 160 and House Bill 4110) outlaw partial birth abortion in Michigan. Hansen helped lead the cause in the Senate to ban the gruesome acts (10/11/2011)

State Sen. Goeff Hansen, R-Hart, and Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler testified on Sept. 13 before the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of Senate Bills 551 and 552. Hansen introduced the reform legislation upon the sheriffs request. The measures would prohibit the selling and possession of cellular phones by prisoners in local jails and correctional facilities.  (9/13/2011)
