State Sen. Joe Hune, R-Hamburg Township, met with Special Olympians and supporters from across the 22nd Senate District who came to Lansing Tuesday for the first ever Special Olympics Day at the state Capitol. The athletes, many who have traveled the world to compete, attended the special event and visited with Hune. Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, (left) and Sen. Joe Hune, R-Hamburg Township, welcome Carrie Cramer, of the DeYoung Family Zoo in Wallace, Mich. and star of the Nat Geo Wild show My Life is a Zoo, to the state Capitol. Cramer traveled to Lansing to testify before the Senate Agriculture Committee in support of Senate Bill 210, which is designed to benefit Michigan zoos. The farm-friendly legislation, which Hune sponsored, will help ensure that Michigan farmers who voluntarily comply with state environmental standards receive real benefits. Public Act 1 of 2011 (Senate Bill 122) provides a level of consistency and certainty for environmental outcomes and economic investment. (3/8/2011)

State Sen. Joe Hune, R-Hamburg Twp., is administered the oath of office by Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert P. Young, Jr. Standing with Hune is his wife Marcia, mother Kim, father David, grandmother Betty, mother-in-law Susan Hagenbarth, and brother and sister-in-law Bryan and Brenna Hagenbarth.
