A.R.R.A. PROJECT RESURFACES TELEGRAPH ROAD IN REDFORD TOWNSHIP

LANSING-State Senator Glenn S. Anderson joined Redford Township Supervisor Tracey Schultz Kobylarz, officials from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), and a representative from House Speaker Andy Dillon’s office to celebrate the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s (ARRA) investment to resurface southbound US-24 in Redford Township.

“Everybody from local offices to federal agencies came together to ensure the best, most efficient outcome on this project,” said Senator Anderson, a member of the Senate Transportation Committee. “This is precisely the type of investment I envisioned when voting to fund shovel-ready infrastructure improvements this spring.”

MDOT is overseeing the project to resurface southbound US-24 (Telegraph Road) from Plymouth to Joy roads. Included in the project is an upgrade to underground sewer lines for the local community. Funding for the project was made available when the State Senate approved House Bill 4582, providing $635 million in federal dollars to help maintain and improve Michigan’s transportation infrastructure. Distribution of funds was determined by population, where the dollars will have the most impact in creating jobs, and where the greatest need for infrastructure improvements exists. The goal is to stimulate economic activity statewide, and to create as many jobs as possible.

“This project was a textbook example of local, state and federal government working together in a cooperative and timely way to make this improvement a reality for Redford Township,” said Supervisor Tracey Schultz Kobylarz.

“The result is an improvement to our infrastructure both above and below ground,” said Sen. Anderson. “Possibly even more important during these difficult times, this investment has created jobs and injected dollars into our community.”
