Anderson Announces Grant Awards for Livonia Arts Commission

Grants Will Bring Cultural Program and Performances to Community

LANSING-State Senator Glenn S. Anderson today announced that the Livonia Arts Commission will be receiving two grants from the Michigan Humanities Council. The grants will assist the commission to bring two musical performers to Livonia in the coming months.

“This is a great example of what can be achieved by a handful of civic-minded individuals. I am always happy to work with people and groups holding the common goal of enriching the community for the benefit of all residents,” said Sen. Anderson. “Livonia is indeed fortunate to have this dedicated group of volunteers who are successfully bringing these quality programs to the community. I’d encourage other Livonia residents to get involved with the commission by calling Ms. Donna Eno, the chair at (734) 261-5870.”

Each year the Michigan Humanities Council, in partnership with the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, provides grant opportunities through the Arts & Humanities Touring Program. Grants are offered to assist nonprofit organizations in bringing cultural programs and performers to their communities. Earlier this summer, Senator Anderson distributed information on the program to community leaders and arts groups to assist their efforts in securing these grants.

The first event will be a concert performed by Brazil and Beyond held on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Livonia. The second will be a jazz history education presentation conveyed through musical performance by Vincent York’s Jazzistry held at the Livonia Civic Center Library Auditorium on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.
